2014-2015 Library Enhancement Grant

Drs. Alessia Colarossi and Deborah Amberson have been awarded a Library Enhancement Grant in the Humanities for 2014 to supplement the University of Florida Libraries’ Italian resources. Through the acquisition of Italian primary and critical texts, this Library Enhancement Grant will add new titles focused on the fields of literary modernism, contemporary cinema, immigrant literature and contemporary cultural studies.

These resources will be particularly beneficial to faculty and students in UF’s thriving Italian program located within the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. UF students can now pursue a minor in Italian studies, focusing on the literature, arts, history and politics of the country. Over the past several years, the Italian program has increased its course offerings, including five new courses last year. Future plans include the development of an elementary language cycle as an offering for the UF online program. New Italian acquisitions will increase the amount of resources available to the many students involved in this recent course development and enrich the possibilities for research within courses similarly focused on contemporary cinema, theatre and film.

These resources will also serve the university community as a whole including, but not limited to, scholars active in the fields of cinema, immigration, literary genre studies, contemporary European terrorism and Mediterranean studies.
