Latina Empowerment Symposium
February 22, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
FreeThe Symposium was created to cultivate an intentional interdisciplinary investment in critical consciousness about Latin America and the Latinx community in the U.S. The theme of the Symposium is “I am, Yo Soy, Mwen, Eu sou Latina and more… Exploring the intersections of our Latinx Identities.” The theme aims to unite various identities within the Latinx diaspora and showcase the beauty within all of the identities. Hosted before the beginning of Women’s History Month, the organizers are hoping that the Latina Empowerment Symposium highlights the existence and contributions of Latina women which are often times hidden in the shadows or erased from history. Especially as we reach and commemorate the 100 years of White women’s right to vote in the U.S. and critically look at how that has impacted us in present day politics and life.
Sponsored by UF Hispanic-Latino Affairs and Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere (Rothman Endowment).
