In collaboration with the University of Florida’s Disability Resource Center, English Department, and Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere,
Constructing Communities: Exploring Access through Education and Art! Bridging the Gap: Community Engagement in Public Education:
Panelists Gerry Altamirano (Assistant Dean and Director of the Disability Resource Center, University of Florida), Maryam El-Shall (English Instructor, Santa Fe College), Brian Glen (English Instructor, Discovery High School), and Stephen Hardy (American Sign Language Instructor, University of Florida) will discuss access, education, and meeting the needs of students who are transitioning from the high school to collegiate level.
After opening discussion, participants will join break-out rooms with guided questions to continue conversation with other attendees before reconvening with panelists.
All are welcome, with educators and students particularly encouraged to attend!
ASL interpreters will be present at both events, with Live Transcription services also available through Otter.ai. Please let us know of any other access needs for attending this event in the registration form!
This event series was organized as part of Dr. Delia Steverson’s graduate seminar on Critical Disability Studies. We thank our sponsors: the University of Florida’s Disability Resource Center, English Department, and Center for Humanities and the Public Sphere.
