Jaime Ahlberg

Jaime Ahlberg holds an appointment as associate professor of philosophy. Her research explores how ideals like equality and fairness come to bear on everyday policy and practice, especially in education.

Ahlberg completed her PhD in philosophy at the University of Wisconsin in 2010. Following her graduation, she joined UF’s Department of Philosophy as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2019.  She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in political and moral philosophy, and she supervises graduate students working in normative and applied ethics.

Ahlberg has secured grants from the Spencer Foundation and the Center for Ethics & Education. She has served as president of the Association for the Philosophy of Education, and maintains an affiliation with UF’s Education Policy Research Center. Her work includes co-editing a book on Procreation, Parenthood, and Educational Rights (Routledge, 2017) and contributing articles to renowned journals such as Educational Theory, Theory and Research in Education, and Social Philosophy & Policy.

During her tenure at UF, Ahlberg has been recognized for her teaching and research with the Beyond120 Research Mentorship in the Humanities Award (2021), a CLAS Term Professor Award (2016-19), and a CLAS Teacher of the Year Award (2016).

As director, Ahlberg’s priorities for the Center for Humanities and the Public Sphere include enhancing its reputation as a collaborative hub for UF students, faculty, and community members.  Her goal is to foster conversations that amplify awareness of the overlapping ways in which humanistic inquiries and methodologies are valuable to the work and goals of these different groups.
