20 September 2018 – 9:00 am – 11:00 am
“Writing Successful DDRG and GRF Proposals at NSF” with Dr. Jeff Mantz
UF Department of Anthropology

Please join the UF Department of Anthropology for a presentation and discussion about writing successful DDRG and GRF Proposals at the National Science Foundation, with Dr. Jeff Mantz. Jeff will offer some tried and true advice for early career researchers thinking about applying for funding from units in the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences at NSF.  Although he will have some prepared statements, this is intended as an open discussion, so bring your questions, concerns, and anxieties about proposal writing, and get ready to write a winning grant!

Jeff Mantz has been at NSF since 2012 and is a program director in cultural anthropology and a human subjects research officer.  He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago and has previously taught at George Mason University, Cornell University, California State University at Stanislaus and Vassar College. His own research takes him to the Caribbean and Central Africa, where he explores issues related to inequality, resource extraction and commodity supply chains.

CSE E252 seats approximately 50 people. Students are more than welcome and encouraged to attend if they are thinking of (or maybe not yet thinking of) applying for either DDRG or GRF support.

Additionally, the Department arranged some time for faculty to meet with Jeff, from noon to 1:30 pm (also on the 20th), in the Anthropology seminar room: 1208A Turlington.  Faculty may be interested in meeting with him for insights into SBE overall, or for advice or process or something else that is NSF-related.  The Department is more than happy to accommodate anyone interested.  However, 1208A holds only about 20 people, so please have interested faculty RSVP.

Contact: Peter Collings, Jessie Ball duPont-Magid Term Professor and Interim Chair, Department of Anthropology. Phone: 352-294-7593. E-mail: pcollings@ufl.edu.
