Visiting Artists Lecture: Felipe Baeza

September 4, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

Felipe Baeza, born in Guanajuato, Mexico, incorporates painting and printmaking to examine his own biography and interests in migration, sexuality, and anthropology. Baeza’s art practice aims to assert an individuality outside of the strictures and disappointments of language. Recent exhibitions include La Emergencia de Hacer Memoria, Fortnight Institute, New York, NY; and Nobody Promised You Tomorrow: Contemporary Art in the 50th Year of the Stonewall Era at the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY. Baeza just finished a yearlong fellowship at NXTHVN co-founded by Titus Kaphar in New Haven, CT. He is the recipient of The Josef & Anni Albers Foundation Fellowship and the 2018 recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant. Baeza received a BFA from The Cooper Union and an MFA from the Yale School of Art. He currently lives and works between New Haven, CT, and Brooklyn, NY.
