Virtual Discussion Group on Race After Technology with Ruha Benjamin

March 2, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

UF students are invited to a virtual book discussion with Professor Ruha Benjamin on her 2019 book Race After Technology: Abolitionist Tools for the New Jim Code. In this book, Benjamin examines technology from everyday apps to complex algorithms to show how these seemingly benevolent tools have the potential to hide, speed up, and deepen discrimination. Come to learn more about how digital technology undermines the fight for racial justice, and how we can build more just practices around race and technology. This discussion is moderated by Kimberly Williams (Ph.D. Student, English).

This discussion is limited to 25 UF undergraduate and graduate students. Sign up here by March 1st: https://ufl.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9WWkPotjan5RLXU

The eBook is available to UF students and can be accessed through Smathers Libraries here: https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/ufl/reader.action?docID=5820427

This discussion accompanies Prof. Benjamin’s public lecture at 4pm on Thursday, February 25th: https://humanities.ufl.edu/event/race-to-the-future-reimagining-the-default-settings-of-technology-society-ruha-benjamin/
