The State of the Humanities: Reports by CHPS-sponsored Reading Groups
February 24, 2020 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
FreeConveners and members of reading groups sponsored by the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere share their experience of exploring a humanities topic during the academic year 2019-20. In 2019, the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere initiated a new program awarding small grants to faculty, staff, and graduate students to form reading groups on themes in the humanities. Members of three of the funded research groups will share what they have learned throughout the process. Faculty members from different units at UF will present findings on such diverse topics as “Informal Economics in Global Perspective,” “‘Can You Hear me Now?’: Podcasting for Humanities Scholarship, Teaching, and Public Engagement,” and “In Praise of Uselessness.” The conversation will reflect current debates in the humanities. The event will be of particular interest to those considering applying for the Reading Group Grant for the 2020-2021 cycle.
Funded by the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere.
Free and open to the public.
