Pitch Perfect! Creating a Captivating Research Presentation for Graduate Students in the Humanities

September 13, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Just in time for the Three Minute Thesis competition, the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere presents “Pitch Perfect! Creating a Captivating Research Presentation for Graduate Students in the Humanities,” featuring:

Dr. Stephanie Webster, Dial Center Associate Director, Master Lecturer, Director of Public Speaking, Dial Center for Written and Oral Communication

MaRah Williams, MFA Candidate and Instructor, School of Theatre + Dance, College of the Arts

Dr. Kristen Galvin, Assistant Director for Graduate Engagement, Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere

What makes a research presentation dynamic and engaging? How do you successfully present your research to a non-specialized audience, and emphasize its importance? From job talks to teaching demonstrations to interviews, during graduate studies and beyond, students present and perform their research numerous times. This workshop is designed to answer the questions above, and to provide students with the tools to improve their oral presentation and basic performance skills. In addition, students will learn how to turn their research project into a compelling short story. This workshop also intends to support students presenting at UF’s upcoming 3 Minute Thesis Competition (3MT®).

*For those interested in learning more about the 3 Minute Thesis Competition (3MT®), there is an informational session that is currently being rescheduled due to the hurricane.

Who Should Attend? This workshop is open to all humanities graduate students (MA and PhD), and is highly recommended for those registered for the 3 Minute Thesis Competition (3MT®) and/or actively on the job market.

What Should You Bring? Please wear comfortable clothing for acting exercises and be prepared to take notes.

RSVP: Lunch will be served. Please RSVP by September 11th with attendance and any dietary restrictions to kgalvin@ufl.edu.

This event is part of the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere 2019-20 Graduate Student Professional Development Series.
