Unfortunately, Byllye Avery will be unable to travel to Gainesville at this time. The events featuring Byllye Avery, including the lecture and discussion scheduled for Friday, March 13th, have been cancelled. They will be rescheduled at a later date.

Byllye Y. Avery, a key figure in shaping Gainesville’s prominent role in the national feminist movement, co-founded two centers in Florida in the 1970s: Gainesville Women’s Health Center and Birthplace.  She is a prominent health-care activist and founder of the Black Woman’s Health Imperative.  She served on the Charter Advisory Committee for the Office of Research on Women’s Health at the National Institutes of Health.  Avery is the recipient of many awards including the MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant”.
