October 23, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Public Lecture October 23, 3-4pm, Turlington L005

“From Outreach to Engagement:
Building a 21st Century Approach to Community Engagement in Higher Education”

Today’s approaches to community engagement in higher education require a refocusing of the approaches, goals, structures, and policies that undergird community outreach efforts. The forces behind this changing community engagement landscape, and the implications of today’s evolving engagement agenda for faculty scholarship, students’ experiences, and academic units’ priorities will be addressed by Dr. Andrew Furco, along with the impact of community-engaged learning on students’ academic, civic, personal, social, ethical, and career development; the status and trends of student interest and participation in community-engaged experiences; and the types of community-engaged learning that students prefer and implications for program development.
