Finding Work in the Humanities

In this 60-minute conversation, Aaron Hoover (Director of Executive Communications in the UF President’s Office, Robin Lewy (Co-founder and Director of Programming at the Rural Women’s Health Project, and Hadassah St. Hubert (Program Officer in the Division of Preservation and Access at the NEH) will discuss their humanities skills and provide an overview of their career paths.

About the Speakers

Aaron Hoover is the Director of Executive Communications in the UF President’s Office, where he works closely with President Kent Fuchs on speeches, social media, videos, correspondence and other communications. He joined the president’s office in April 2011 following a 20-year career as speechwriter, science writer and daily newspaper reporter. He holds a Master of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences degree from the University of Florida (2002) and a B.A. in classics from St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD (1990).

Robin Lewy is the Co-Founder and Director of Programming at the Rural Women’s Health Project, the only health justice organization in North Florida. Robin has worked for 30 years in social justice, health education and community mobilization in the United States and Central America. In her current role, she oversees advocacy and direct service programming that serves Latino communities, immigrants, women living with HIV and rural communities. Robin is a regional trainer on health inequity in rural communities, immigrant rights & integration, and the use of testimonial print media. She holds a Master of Arts in Social Development and Popular Theatre, University of Nebraska-Omaha as well as a BFA in Acting from Emerson College in Boston.

Hadassah St. Hubert is a Program Officer in the Division of Preservation and Access at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). She received a Ph.D. in History from the University of Miami specializing in Caribbean, Latin American, and African Diasporic history. Her research interests focus on visual culture and the representation of developing nations at World’s Fairs and Expositions. Prior to joining the NEH, she was the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) Postdoctoral Fellow in Latin American and Caribbean Studies at the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC). Her experience includes digital humanities, archival preservation, collaborations across cultural institutions, and digitizing endangered collections.
