Book Discussion: Coming of Age in Mississippi

As part of the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere 2019-20 Speaker Series Rethinking the Public Sphere Part I: Race and the Promise of Participation and in preparation for Leigh Ann Wheeler’s public lecture “Anne Moody and Voting Rights in the Era of Black Power: After Coming of Age in Mississippi,” students, faculty, staff, and members of the public are invited to participate in this reading group and book discussion.

Free copies of the book may be picked up at the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere (200 Walker Hall) from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday in order to participate in the reading group and discussion.

This acclaimed 1968 memoir remains as important as ever with its autobiographical story of growing up poor and black in the rural south.

The book discussion will be facilitated by Chesya Burke and Kedon K. Willis.
