September 7, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The Center for the study of Hindu Traditions (CHiTra), University of Florida, presents a Bharata Natyam Dance Performance by:
Viraja and Shyamjith Kiran (Kalakshetra alumni).
Viraja and Shyamjith Kiran were trained in Kalakshetra, one of the foremost schools of Bharata Natyam, in Chennai. They have been a part of the Kalakshetra repertory, dancing in major roles and have also taught as part-time faculty at their alma mater. Viraja and Shyamjith have also worked with the Dhananjayans, Leela Samson, and other legends in the field of Bharata Natyam.
Viraja and Shyamjith have also learned Kathakali under Sadanam Balakrishnan. Involvement with their gurus, with Kalakshetra, in conjunction with their independent pursuits has enabled them to perform at various prestigious venues all over the world. Training in Yoga and Kalaripayattu has been an important factor in their understanding of not just the physicality of the human form but also the intellect. Some of their critically acclaimed works include Pareekshana, Mudivil Oru Aarambam, Svam, Aham, Rekha and Eeram.
