Asian American Student Union Film Fest

FreeAASU Film Fest will be highlighting Asian American representation in cinema while giving members the opportunity to send in short films. The mission of AASU Film Fest is to empower individuals through film by celebrating and showcasing Asian and Asian American experiences and creative content while encouraging artistic development of individual talent, arts, and film at UF and in the greater Gainesville community.
The first day (Jan 12th, 6-9PM, Reitz Grand Ballroom) consists of mainly presentations of submitted films and the second day (Jan 13th, 2-6PM, Reitz Rion Ballroom) will consist of awards of the films submitted and Wong Fu Production’s Yappie Campus Tour. They will be showing a viewing of their “Yappie” film series, participating in a Q+A, and meeting fellow students for pictures.
Wong Fu Production’s Bio: “Wong Fu Productions is an independent digital production company founded in 2003.
Since then, they’ve amassed over 3M subscribers around the world with over 500M views for dramatic shorts and comedy sketches on YouTube. Their creative work has been recognized by CNN, NPR, and the White House for its striking quality and emotional depth as well as its authentic representation of Asian Americans.
As pioneers and leaders in the ever-growing space, Wong Fu Productions continues to expand on and off our channel, with the film “Everything Before Us” released on Netflix, the original series “Single by 30” on YouTube Premium, and most recently, the series “Yappie.”
