Public Humanities 101 or How to Write for the Public – Leigh Ann Wheeler
February 14, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:15 am
FreeIn addition to her lecture, Professor Wheeler will host a brunch seminar in which she will use her current research project—a biography of civil rights activist Anne Moody– to speak about public humanities. She will explain how and why she oriented herself toward writing for a broader public, from op-ed pieces to her current book project. The workshop will discuss how addressing the public transforms scholarship and address practical issues such as how to find an agent and the role of public humanities in tenure and promotion.
The discussion-based workshop will be open to faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students, staff, and members of the community. Refreshments will be served. Space is limited. In order to attend, RSVP with any dietary restrictions to humanities-center@ufl.edu by Monday, February 10 at 5pm.
You can read Dr. Wheeler’s most recent op-ed before the workshop here: ‘Coming of Age in Mississippi’ Still Speaks to Nation’s Racial Discord, 50 Years Later.
