Philosophy in Public: Discussing Identity as a Public Intellectual in the Humanities – Chris Lebron
November 15, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
FreeIn this lunch workshop, Professor Christopher Lebron (Johns Hopkins University) will discuss his experiences with public-facing writing in venues such as New York Times’s philosophy column, The Stone, Boston Review, The Nation, The Atlantic, and Billboard Magazine. We will discuss, in particular, Prof. Lebron’s 2018 editorial entitled “’Black Panther’ Is Not the Movie We Deserve,” and how scholars can position themselves as experts in a topic while also making their arguments accessible. There will be ample time for open-ended discussion and Q&A.
This academic lunch workshop is open to UF faculty, graduate students, and enrolled advanced undergraduate students. Please RSVP with any dietary restrictions by November 13 to: humanities-center@ufl.edu. Space is limited.
