“Tell Me Your Story”: Recent Developments in Russian-American-Jewish Writing

Lisa Ryoko Wakamiya (Ph.D., Slavic Languages and Literatures, University of California, Los Angeles) is Associate Professor of Slavic in the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics and Courtesy Associate Professor of English. She is the Coordinator and Graduate Advisor for the Slavic Program. Her current book project Collecting Objects, Materializing Ethics investigates the relationship between collections of material objects and narrative. Professor Wakamiya’s research has been supported by the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program and a Senior Fellowship at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University. For her teaching, Prof. Wakamiya has been recognized with a FSU Undergraduate Teaching Award.
The talk and seminar will discuss the works of Lara Vapnyar, David Bezmozgis and Gary Shteyngart, more specifically recent articles on Russian Jewish emigration to the US.
