From Ballots to Courtrooms: The Impact of Post-Election Legal Disputes on Democratization in Africa This research examines why politicians go to court after losing presidential elections in Africa, and how these court cases affect democracy. Looking at Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi, the study explores whether politicians challenge election results just to win, or if they have other goals like staying politically relevant or pushing for reforms. Through interviews and analysis of court records, this project will create the first detailed study of presidential election court cases in Africa. The findings will help us understand how courts shape democracy in developing countries and how to improve election dispute systems.
