Each year, the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere hosts its annual Humanities Writing Retreat and Graduate Summer Institute, continuing a valued tradition of supporting writing and career development at all stages of academic life.
Held at the serene UF Austin Cary Forest Campus, the retreat welcomes humanities scholars from across disciplines—along with colleagues from other colleges at the University of Florida—for a week of dedicated writing, collaboration, and inspiration. Participants, including graduate students and faculty, gather to focus on a wide range of projects, from book proposals and journal articles to grant applications and reviews.
In addition to fostering scholarly productivity, the retreat emphasizes wellness and community. Attendees benefit from nourishing lunches, rejuvenating yoga sessions, focused writing blocks, and opportunities for networking and mentorship. These elements combine to create a supportive and energizing space for intellectual breakthroughs and the cultivation of meaningful academic partnerships.
