On June 1, 2024, Alachua County unveiled the “Soil Collection Jar Exhibit Honoring Victims of Lynching” at its administration building in Gainesville. This exhibit, developed by the Alachua County Community Remembrance Project (ACCRP), the Alachua County Commission, and the University of Florida’s Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere, features jars of soil collected from documented lynching sites across the county. The initiative aims to acknowledge and educate the public about this aspect of local history. The opening event included remarks from local officials, performances, and opportunities for attendees to view the exhibit in guided groups .
