In the 2020-21 academic year, the Center’s “Rethinking the Public Sphere” speaker series focused on Data & Democracy to offer humanities approaches to the questions of algorithms and machine learning in their historical and contemporary contexts, while also looking to the future.

Conversations in the Neighborhood is a public humanities series developed by the UF Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere in collaboration with the City of Gainesville Office of Equity and Inclusion.

- Humanities Engagement Scholars
The Humanities Engagement Scholars (HES) program shapes undergraduate humanities students’ academic experiences at UF through a variety of learning, service, and mentorship opportunities. Students attend two humanities events of their choice per academic year.
- Envision Humanities: A Graduate Student Toolkit for the 21st Century
Envision Humanities affords graduate students opportunities to expand their skill sets, engage broader publics, and discover a variety of career pathways.

- Publication Subventions
Launched in 2015, the Center’s Publication Subvention Program in the Humanities supports academic books under contract with a scholarly press with up to $1,500 per book.
- Library Enhancement Grant Program in the Humanities
CHPS has used funds since 2009 from the Rothman Endowment to sponsor a grant competition among UF faculty and graduate students to expand the UF library collections in areas in and related to the humanities that are currently underserved.

- Support for Speaker Series and Workshops in the Humanities
CHPS has used funds since 2009 from the Humanities Endowment, Yulee Endowment, and Rothman Endowment to support faculty and graduate students in organizing one-day and longer-running events addressing critical topics in the humanities.
